There are many anti-ageing products in the market, however, how many products are actually scientifically proven to do what it promises? Retinoid is the name you should remember. It is scientifically proven and has been used for decades to treat certain skin conditions.

What is Retinoid?

Men's Skincare Retinoid

Retinoids are a class of Vitamin A derivatives that can help unclogging pores, boosting collagen to reduce fine lines, and increasing cell turnover to even out discolouration and smoothing the skin. You can see all improvement sometimes within four weeks of use. The first Retinoid ‘Tretinoin’ was approved by FDA under the brand name Retin-A almost 40 years ago as a prescription acne treatment. Dermatologists soon noticed that patients on Retin-A experienced not just clearer but softer, brighter, less-lined skin.

 How Do Retinoids Work?

Retinoids works amazingly by acting directly on the DNA in skin cells. They boost cell functions that tend to slow down generally once we hit 30. Retinoids increase cell turnover, so the skin is continually getting rid of damaged cells, hence giving you healthy-looking radiant skin. Additionally, Retinoids also boost the production of Collagen (one of the skin’s primary support structures) and prevent its breakdown as they work their way into deeper skin layers. This helps get rid of fine lines, wrinkles and makes your skin look luminous, firm and youthful.

How Long Until You See Results from Retinoids?

Skin cell turnover usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. Retinoid does not change your skin overnight and please be patient.

How to Use Retinoids the Right Way?

Retinoids can cause dryness, redness, and flaking, therefore, you need to ease in while using them for the first time to avoid a rough transition. For the first two weeks, we suggest applying Retinoid every third night. If your skin isn't irritated, ramp up to every other night for two weeks. Don’t see any dry or flaky skin? Then, go for it every night.

Things to keep in mind to avoid any irritation on your skin: Wait 15 minutes after washing your face before you apply a Retinoid and use one pea-size dab to cover your whole face. After a few minutes, apply a basic moisturiser to prevent dryness.

Retinoid can also make your skin more sensitive since it is increase your skin cell turnover. It is important that you have sun protection, do not use any ingredients that could cause skin irritation and do not wax during use.

Recommendations

The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid Emulsion 2%

We recommend going for The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid Emulsion 2% or The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalene.

The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalene

They both have moderate-strength Retinoid product which are less likely to cause irritation. The product’s active ingredient, Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR), a less abrasive alternative to Retinoic Acid to accelerate skin cell turnover, improve scarring and pigmentation, and reverse the signs of ageing.
